Conil is creating a buzz in the UK having received 4 star reviews from national press including Q Magazine, appearing on BBC Radio and having recently returned from touring with Joseph Arthur. Conil and his alt-rock band will play SXSW and NXNE 2009 and re-release the debut album under licence.
The London singer-songwriter and his alt-rock band attracted twice Grammy winner Tchad Blake (Tom Waits) and double bass legend Danny Thompson (Nick Drake) to work on his debut album after they both visited his MySpace page.
They have been championing the quality of the music in London and LA since. 'Conil is awesome! Strange Part Of The Country is an incredible album'. —Tchad Blake
'Fantastic voice, magic songs... Conil is a classic'. —Danny Thompson
The debut album "Strange Part Of The Country" was released in the UK on Conil's own label (appropriately named Great Hare Records) and through Proper Music Distribution in summer 2008 to critical acclaim, including a 4 star 'Q Recommends' from Q Magazine plus several singles were played across BBC Radio 2 & 6 Music amongst others. Conil was also invited to play various live sessions on BBC stations.
Conil's single 'Dog Meat Stew' caused some controversy when it was released, as reported by '3am' in the Daily Mirror "the Olympics are still two weeks off, but it sounds like the games have already begun. Apparently Chinese authorities sent rockers Conil a sniffy email to say eating dog is 'no longer a practice China endorses' after hearing the lads' new single".
The band supported acclaimed US singer-songwriter Joseph Arthur on his UK summer tour in 2008 at venues including London Union Chapel, Glasgow King Tut's and Birmingham Glee Club.
Conil has also recorded with Peter Green (writer of Black Magic Woman and Albatross).
